Jenni Steele has been noted as a strong, inspirational mentor, this is no accident. After living through years of domestic violence as a teenager, Jenni found her strength and researched her way out. It was then her vow to rebuild her self – worth and support others who were living with abuse. As her confidence grew, Jenni Steele entered the entertainment industry as a DJ/Radio presenter at Invincible Radio and went on to present her first award at the Urban Music Award in 2004.
In 2009, Jenni developed and delivered workshops in schools and other youth agencies to discuss with young people how to ensure they maintained positive relationships with those around them. It wasn’t long before Jenni was asked by local community groups to speak about her journey, in order to motivate and inspire other women. 2009 saw the birth of Lioness Ladies, formed as a support network for women to socialise and promote business over dinner. It was one of the first and most successful events of its kind.
Jenni Steele’s workshops with young people and adults as well as the lioness ladies events lead to, Mayor of Lewisham Steve Bullock, presenting her as the Make a Difference Award Winner for supporting others in 2010. This was just the start of awards presented to Jenni.
She went on to being nominated for the Women Awards in 2012, for her Domestic Violence awareness programmes for teens. Nominated Top 12 Influential Women of Colour in media in the UK 2013 and also nominated Top 8 Inspirational Women of Colour in media in the UK 2014. She was also given the honour of becoming Domestic Violence UK’s (DVUK) National Ambassador, an honour she was proud to accept.
Jenni Steele’s love for radio continued and in 2013 the highly popular radio show Keeping It Real with Jenni Steele was launched across international airwaves. Keeping it Real Inspirational was also created to celebrate local heroes and sheroes in the community. This included the creation of Inspirational Men’s month, a segment dedicated to men. This caught the eye of ‘The Black Man Can’ Awards in the USA which lead to a partnership for a UK category in 2014.
Due to her professionalism and engaging people skills, Jenni continued her progression as an International broadcast journalist, producing entertainment news, covering the red carpet, film premieres and hosting awards shows. The production of her second show Keeping it Real Lifestyle, a live, weekly, magazine style, talk show was launched. It gave exposure to luxury brands, fashion designers, film producers and film festivals. As well as red Carpet and award show coverage. Both radio shows have raised awareness of sickle cell, ACLT, Lupus, Domestic Violence, Abuse and Prostate Cancer and the awareness campaigns continue to grow.
The Jenni Steele Foundation launched in March 2015, an organisation that believes in creating opportunities with a support network, for the next generation of Leaders. The foundation has supported many young people through lectures, workshops and partnerships with other youth organisations in order to provide a platform for greatness amongst our youth,
